I’ve liked their Facebook Page for a while but we just hadn’t ever gotten over to the Sanwa Farmer’s Market at 2621 E Hillsborough Ave in Tampa. Last weekend that changed when we totally went there and checked it out. It is great!
It’s called a farmer’s market but it’s more like a grocery store because you can get so much more than fruits and vegetables grown on a farm. They have canned goods, noodles, giant sacks of rice and beans, restaurant supplies, meat and seafood. It reminds me of an Asian Supermarket crossed with Costco since you can buy in bulk They sell lots of things in #10 cans or by the case. You can usually buy individual items but you get a better deal per unit by the case, as is often the uh, case.
The front of the store has the dry goods and canned goods. The back is where all they keep the fruits, veggies, meat and seafood. They keep it pretty cool back there so if you’re sensitive to cold bring a jacket or something. I had a couple kids who were very cold and made sure I knew it!
The prices on veggies and fruit are way better than I find at my local Winn-Dixie or Publix. I don’t know what it is but produce prices in the Tampa Bay area are pretty high compared to Colorado where I recently moved from. I assume its something about the heat and it being harder to grow some things and they have to be shipped in from further? I don’t know, I should do a research project on that.
But I digress. The Sanwa Farmer’s Market has good prices on fruit and veg. The meat department also did. We didn’t get any as we were not going to be going directly home and didn’t have a cooler or anything. Next time though. It all looked like really good quality meat.
It was a good experience there. We will definitely be going back to do some more shopping and will recommend you to go check it out and do the same.
PS. My favorite thing we got at the Sanwa Farmer’s Market in Tampa was a 2 kilo can of Dolmas or stuffed grape leaves.
